Crock Pot Recipes – General FAQ

These are the most common questions we get about crock pot recipes, hopefully they’ll help point you in the right direction. You’re always welcome to message us or leave a comment if there’s something we haven’t covered!

What is the difference between a slow cooker and a Crock Pot?

The difference between a slow cooker and a Crock Pot is only that the Crock Pot is a specific brand of slow cooker. There are many companies that make slow cookers, Crock Pot is the most widely known name.

What is the best slow cooker to buy?

The best slow cooker to buy is the one that suits your needs. If you have a small family, get a smaller slow cooker, if you need the ability to saute get one with more features, if you want to cook for a large crowd get a roaster, and if you want to pressure cook in addition to slow cook, get an Instant Pot.

In our home, we have several basic Crock Pots, a mini Crock Pot (for sauces or small batch items), an Instant Pot, and an electric roaster.

How economical is a slow cooker?

Slow cookers are very economical, your basic slow cooker uses only a little more energy than a traditional light bulb, whereas the oven is typically the most expensive appliance to run in the house.

Studies have shown that the slow cooker can be a cost savings of well over 50% when compared to cooking the same dish in an oven.

Crock Pot Recipes

Vegetable Beef Soup

I started with this because it is one of my absolute favorite crock pot recipes. Vegetable beef soup is filled with delicious tender beef, potatoes, carrots, green beans, tomatoes and corn.

This recipe includes instructions on how to make it in the slow cooker, the instant pot, or on the stove top!

Potato Soup

This potato soup is my husband’s very favorite crock pot recipe. I figure if I start with mine, I should follow up with his, right?!

Make sure to serve it with all the toppings. Extra bacon for me, please!

Pulled Pork Recipe

If we’re talking about crock pot recipes that aren’t soup, then this is the one I’m most fond of. A simple mix of sweet and savory rubbed onto the pork and then slow cooked all day long.

Tender flavorful pulled pork made in the slow cooker is hard to beat.

Seafood Chowder

Seafood chowder made in the slow cooker is simple and so incredibly satisfying. Add whatever type of seafood you love for a personalized result. (Ahem, may I suggest shrimp and scallops).

We like to make this in the crock pot, but you can also make it stove top or in an instant pot.

BBQ Pineapple Pulled Pork

As you can tell, pulled pork is one of my favorite foods. It’s great for a potluck or backyard barbecue, and works just as well for a busy weekday when you don’t want to spend a ton of time in the kitchen – the slow cooker does all the work for you!

This BBQ Pulled Pork is a family favorite, and with only a handful of ingredients it doesn’t get any easier to make – yay for crock pot recipes!

Wendy’s Chili Recipe

I don’t know if it’s kosher to say out loud, but you guys – I love Wendy’s Chili! It’s so good! But since we don’t have a Wendy’s super close (and it would get expensive to go every day!). We have this homemade version!

I bet if you did a blind taste test with friends they wouldn’t know which was which! I’m so excited this is one of our crock pot recipes.

Chicken Zoodle Soup

Not only is chicken zoodle soup delicious, filling, and comforting, but if you’re doing Weight Watchers, it’s ZERO points! That’s enough for it to make it to the top of my crock pot recipes list!

Have as much as you like because this soup is filled with all the good stuff.

Crock Pot Recipes – Tips and Tricks

Keep the lid on! If you take the lid off your crockpot to stir or smell or just poke around, you’re releasing the heat and steam that is working hard on cooking your food. Just don’t do it.

★ Make sure you use the right size crock pot! Using a slow cooker that is too large or too small for your food may prevent the food from cooking properly.

★ For sticky or messy dishes use a crock pot liner. I don’t like them for everything, but you’d better believe I’m lining my slow cooker when we do sweet potatoes or candies! Crock pot recipes don’t have to be messy.

Chili Recipe (No Beans)

Not everyone loves beans, so this chili is perfect for our bean free friends. Actually it’s perfect for everyone, because it’s delicious!

Make it as one of your crock pot recipes, pop it into an instant pot or fix it on the stove top!

Creamy Sausage Potato Soup

This soup is a life saver for busy nights. You can use fresh potatoes or if you’re feeling especially tired of prepping food (it happens, no judging here) a bag of frozen hash browns works great!

Make it a full meal by adding some spinach at the end, and make a double batch so you can freeze half for later!

Crock Pot Minestrone Soup

Minestrone is a classic Italian vegetable noodle soup that is actually super versatile. Make a batch of this when you have so many veggies coming out of your summer garden that you’re not sure what to do with all of them.

Can’t do grains? No worries….skip the pasta and toss in some chicken instead. Then round it out with a side salad and a serving of crusty bread. Yum!

Crockpot Corn Chowder

M’mm…. I can’t get enough of this corn and potato chowder. As crock pot recipes go, it’s toward the top of our list! It’s incredibly yummy! It’s actually one of the first foods I make in the fall, because hello…soup. Yum.

It’s gluten-free, and really versatile…add whatever soup mix-ins you please! Want to round it out a little bit more? Stir in some cooked chicken. Nom nom nom.

Curried Tomato Lentil Soup

This curried tomato lentil soup is a great option when you’re feeling a little adventurous in the kitchen. If you’re looking for a vegetarian option just use vegetable broth instead.

It’s wonderfully delicious on it’s own, but it’s also fantastic as a sauce over rice or veggies!

Slow Cooker Spiral Ham

I bet even those of you who aren’t big ham eaters will love this one! Admittedly, I am not a huge lover of ham myself, but the flavors in this are wonderful and even I gobbled it right up!

Loaded Baked Potato Soup

This is, quite simply put, the best loaded potato soup recipe on the planet. It’s not bragging if it’s the truth. This recipe has been pinned well over a million (!!!) times and for good reason! It’s amazing!

With just a handful of ingredients, it’s probably the easiest soup you’ll ever make. This recipe makes a LOT, so I suggest freezing half of it and saving it for a rainy day. If you make only one of our crock pot recipes, do this one.

Crock Pot Recipes – Cooker Options

7 Quart Slow Cooker – My favorite brand name slow cooker. It’s big and simple and does the job well.

Oster Roasting Oven – This thing is massive. It can slow cook, roast, or bake and is perfect for a big crowd.

Instant Pot – The Instant Pot is a great option. It gives you saute features, pressure cooker features, and of course slow cooking!

Growing up, whenever my mom made pork chops she served it with applesauce. And for good reason….the sweetness of apples just pairs so well with savory pork.

This recipe was inspired by that classic combo, and it couldn’t be easier to make or more flavorful!

Slow Cooker Beef Chili

I feel like beef chili is the ultimate slow cooker meal. It’s one of those dishes that is just absolutely perfect for any occasion.

Slow Cooker Roasted Garlic Cloves

This is the perfect food prep recipe! Make a batch of roasted garlic cloves in your slow cooker and your roasted garlic woes will be cooked away.

Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup

If any soup could be labeled a comfort food, it’s definitely this one. This soup is perfect for enjoying while cuddling under a blanket in front of a fire on a cold night.

What temp is warm on a slow cooker?

On the warm setting, a slow cooker or crock pot will be approximately 165 degrees to 175 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature will vary some from device to device, and it is important to note that this temperature is below the simmer point (roughly 200 degrees) and should not be used to cook food.
